Sometimes a classic needs to be more contemporary. This traditional colonial needed to be reimagined for a family with three young kids. So we opened up the first floor while staying within the existing footprint of the home.
We rotated the kitchen to create a large island with seating and brought down walls to add an open concept dining area and family room. Their formerly formal dining room became a home office and study space for the children. We added a mudroom with built-in cubbies so the family had functional storage, coming and going. Now the first floor is incredibly practical and casually elegant.
