Blending families is exciting, but it isn’t always easy. For a new family unit of 5 kids and 2 parents, this modest home had potential, but we knew it would take fresh thinking to make it work.
So we took their split-level and made it a colonial. We cut the roof off and added 3 bedrooms and a full bath for the kids, then added a large mudroom and stairs going up to a new master suite and laundry room. On the first floor, we reworked and renovated the existing floor plan and gave them an oversized garage with lots of storage. Their home is now the ultimate in family friendly. Everyone can be together, yet still have their own space.
